System design and experimental research on the tangential ultrasonic vibration-assisted grinding gear

A tangential ultrasonic vibration-assisted gear grinding (TUVAGG) system was proposed in this paper to enhance the machining accuracy and performance of gears. Firstly, longitudinal resonant vibration TUVAGG designed based on non-resonant theory. The frequency equation displacement characteristics for were obtained particular boundary conditions. Secondly, composed simplified disc simulated by finite elements analysis method (FEM) verified measurement test. Finally, effectiveness through normal forces lower 7.4–28.2% 8.9–18.9%, respectively, than conventional (CGG). Besides, temperature surface roughness declined 7.6–25.7% 8.6–21.8% respectively compared with CGG, while former tooth residual compressive stress microhardness exceeded latter ones 13.2–29.3% 8.9–12.7%. theory suitable designation TUVAGG, also provided a novel process technology machining.
